The Edvard Grieg Society of the Great Lakes is a non-profit organization dedicated to the study and promotion of Grieg. The society is headed by a dynamic group of musicians who have made significant contributions to Grieg’s music. Performers for this event will include Mary Rose Norell, Luke Norell, Greg Martin, and Mimmi Fulmer, joined by Anna Hersey and Alan Dunbar, and will feature instrumental and vocal works of Grieg, as well as French mélodies.

Violist Elias Goldstein and pianist Angela Draghicescu will perform works from their upcoming CD, including a transcription of the Enescu Third Sonata, which will be released in Fall 2018. Elias Goldstein (DMA 2011) is assistant professor of viola at Louisiana State University and much sought internationally for recitals and master classes. A professor and frequent soloist from the University of Arkansas, Mr. Pierce is one of the rare musicians who is equally respected as a soloist on both instruments, and has won several prestigious international solo competitions (including the Lieksa, Markneukirchen and Falcone competitions). Marc Vallon is professor of bassoon and bassoonist for the Wingra Wind Quintet in residence at the School of Music. A native of France, Mr. Vallon studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he earned two Premier Prix–for bassoon studies with Maurice Allard and for chamber music with Maurice Bourgue, Myron Bloom, and Christian Lard. During his conservatory studies, played in various Paris orchestras, performing under many renowned conductors, including Sergiu Celibidache, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Karl Boehm, and Lorin Maazel.

For this special event,  John Wesley Wright will present a recital of a variety of African-American music including examples of calls and chants, children’s game songs, spirituals and ring shouts, hymns and gospels, civil rights era songs, and contemporary songs.
