Madison Early Music Festival 2020 Concert Series The Orlando Consort presents a rich program of music by some of the finest composers of the 15th century, including ground-breaking works by Guillaume Dufay, beguiling songs by Antoine Busnois, and profound sacred music by Loyset Compère. Serving successive Dukes of Burgundy, these composers and many others flourished under a system of opulent patronage, developing sophisticated and beautiful music that paved the way for the musical glories of the Renaissance.

Madison Early Music Festival 2020 Concert Series The program features music on French texts with a woman-oriented theme. “Comme femme desconfortée” is at the heart of this theme, with compositions drawn from Ottaviano Petrucci’s publications and the Cambrai Chansonnier de Zeghere van Male manuscript. Guest viol player Julie Jeffrey, tenor William Hudson, and other singers from the MEMF Faculty will join the consort. The program will end with the exquisite 6-part motet Angeli Arcangeli by Heinrich Isaac.

Madison Early Music Festival 2020 Concert Series Designed by Grant Herreid and J. Michael Allsen for MEMF, this program samples the musical heritage of the Valois Dukes of Burgundy, including musical works associated with or influenced by the Burgundian court. Music associated with the 1454 Feast of the Pheasant features pieces by Gilles Binchois and Jean Morton, and Guillaume Du Fay’s emotional lament for the fall of Constantinople. Anchoring the program are mass movements from the L’homme armé tradition, from the Burgundian ducal chapel and beyond.
