Doctoral Recital: James Waldo, cello

James Waldo is a first-year DMA student and University Graduate Fellow under the supervision of Professor Uri Vardi. In partial fulfillment of his degree requirements, Mr. Waldo will present a program of sonatas and other works for cello/piano duo with his wife and long-time collaborator, pianist Alyona Aksyonova. The program will feature the Cello Sonata FP 143 (1948) by Francis Poulenc, the Sonata for Cello and Piano in D minor (1915), the Ballade for Cello and Piano Op. 15 by Sergei Prokofiev (1912) and “Pohádka” (1924) by Leoš Janáček. Mr. Waldo and Ms. Aksyonova perform professionally as the ensemble “A.W.Duo” and have concertized across the United States and in China.

Student Recital: Micah Cheng, cello

Micah Cheng, a student of cellist Uri Vardi, is a fourth year undergraduate pursuing a double major in cello performance and material science & engineering. On this program, he will perform Beethoven’s 7 Variations on a Theme from the Magic Flute, Mendelssohn’s Cello Sonata No. 2 in D Major, and Chopin’s Introduction et Polonaise brillante. His accompanist will be Thomas Kasdorf.

Student Recital: Benjamin Bauer, cello

Benjamin Bauer is a junior pursuing a degree in cello performance, studying with Uri Vardi. He is an alumnus of the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, and is in the cello section for the Beloit Janesville Symphony Orchestra.

Cello Recital: Students of Parry Karp

Daniel Lucas, Hannah Kasun, and Zach Buehler, students of Parry Karp, will present a studio recital. Works include Popper’s Requiem for three cellos and piano as well as solo repertoire from each cellist.

A pianist will be announced from the stage.
