Our faculty ensembles

In 1938, after inviting the Pro Arte Quartet to join the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a faculty ensemble, the school became the first American public institution of its kind to have artists‐in‐residence. The quartet was subsequently joined by two more faculty ensembles: the Wingra Wind Quintet and the Wisconsin Brass Quintet.

In addition to performing as part of the School of Music Faculty Concert Series, each group travels to Wisconsin high schools and concert halls, working with young musicians and performing for local concert series patrons. Our faculty ensembles epitomize the Wisconsin Idea, the principle that the university should improve people’s lives beyond the classroom.
