About “Slava!”:
Leonard Bernstein met the cellist Mstislav “Slava” Rostropovich on a State Department-sponsored tour with the New York Philharmonic to Russia in 1959. SLAVA! A Political Overture was premiered on October 11, 1977 as a part of Mstislav Rostropovich’s inaugural concerts as music director of the National Symphony Orchestra.Bernstein dedicated the work to Rostropovich.
Winds of Wisconsin is a high school wind ensemble which provides outstanding young musicians with an opportunity to learn wind literature of the highest quality. Winds of Wisconsin consists of two concerts with five rehearsals each, sectionals, an instrumental masterclass with UW-Madison School of Music faculty, and additional topics presented by the music education faculty.
