Oriol Sans, conductor
Elizabeth Vaughan, piano

……

Program: Adams: The Chairman Dances; Turina: Danzas Fantásticas; Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 3

This concert will open with The Chairman Dances by American composer John Adams. This piece was composed as an “out-take” of the surreal finale scene of Adams’ opera Nixon in China. Its dreamy ending segues perfectly into a set of three dances by Spanish composer Joaquín Turina titled Danzas Fantásticas. Sergei Rachmaninoff’s virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 3 concludes the concert, featuring 2022 Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition winner Elizabeth Vaughan.
