Jazz pianist Billy Childs, the 2018 Grammy Award winner for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, will join the UW Jazz Orchestra on stage for an exciting opening act prior to his appearance with the Billy Childs Quartet.
Mr. Childs is one of the most prolific and acclaimed artists working in music today. He credits Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea as some of his early influences, as well as classical composers such as Paul Hindemith, Maurice Ravel and Igor Stravinsky for sparking his love of composition. The result of such a broad range of influences is Childs’ own “neoclassical” style that crosses musical boundaries. He has collaborated with other acclaimed artists including Yo-Yo Ma, The Kronos Quartet, Wynton Marsalis, Sting, and Chris Botti.
