Originally from South Korea, Mary Shin has performed in many different countries, including South Korea, Vietnam, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and the United States. She has played with orchestras and chamber ensembles at the Texas and Brevard Music Festivals as well as with the Vietnam National Orchestra. In addition, she has performed Brahms’ Violin Concerto and Ravel’s Tzigane with the Calvin University orchestra.
Mary finished her M.M. in the spring of 2020 at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. She earned her B.A. in 2018 from Calvin University, where she studied violin with David Reimer and Haijin Choi and also completed a minor in philosophy. She is in the first year of a doctoral program in violin performance at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she currently studies with Soh-Hyun Park Altino. She also maintains a private violin studio in Madison with students of varying ages and ability levels. Mary’s other interests include observing the moon, practicing her penmanship, and running at dawn.
