Dr. Darin Olson is currently Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His primary responsibilities include serving as Assistant Director of the Marching Band, overseeing the Wisconsin Drumline, conducting the University Band, and directing the Varsity Band for women’s basketball and volleyball. Prior to his appointment at UW, Dr. Olson taught at Rider High School in Wichita Falls, TX. While working in a team teaching environment, all ensembles that he assisted and conducted earned top ratings at University Interscholastic League (UIL) adjudicated events. He has also held teaching engagements in Ohio, Missouri, Minnesota, and South Dakota.
An active clinician, arranger, and adjudicator, Dr. Olson frequently makes appearances throughout the Midwest and South. His professional memberships include the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and the Percussive Arts Society (PAS). He is currently a reviewer for Percussive Notes, the official publication of PAS, and serves on the Education Committee. His achievements in academic settings have been recognized by inductions into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Pi Kappa Lambda Honor Society. Dr. Olson is also a proud educational endorser for Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets.
Dr. Olson holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Ohio State University, a Master of Music degree from the University of Missouri, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from South Dakota State University.
