Neil Sisauyhoat is a versatile percussionist specializing in classical, contemporary, and Afro-Cuban percussion. He is currently a Percussion Instructor in the UW-Madison School of Music where he teaches a percussion fundamentals course to music education majors, studio lessons to undergraduate and graduate percussion majors, directs the Afro-Cuban segment of the World Percussion Ensemble, and assists with the Western Percussion Ensemble. As an orchestral musician, Neil made his Carnegie Hall debut in 2005 with the Red Bull Artsehcro Orchestra and has also performed at Lincoln Center and Symphony Space. He was a finalist in the 1999 Percussive Arts Society Keyboard Percussion Duo Contest. Performance credits include Berkeley Opera, San Francisco Lyric Opera, and Michigan Chamber Players. He was a co-founding member of Grupo Ara Oko, an Afro-Cuban Folkloric ensemble based in New York City. Neil can be heard on the Equilibrium label and has recorded audio examples to accompany the text, From "Blue Suede Shoes" to "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes": The Foundations of Rock, published by Oxford University Press.
Neil earned the Bachelor of Music degree from Lawrence University, the Master of Music degree from Mannes College of Music, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan. |
