Life as a Music Major
Consider WISCONSIN because . . .
- there are ample performance opportunities for all music majors - solo, chamber, studio, large ensemble
- you will find a home in the School of Music (with only 250 undergraduate students) but can enjoy the amazing academic and social benefits of a world-class research university (41,000 students total)
- there is always a practice room open for you - we offer more practice rooms than any other music school we know of
- you will have an hour-long lesson and master class with your major professor every week
- the Humanities building has wireless access
What is a music major's schedule like?
Most music students enroll for a core curriculum of music courses their first year that lays a basic foundation for later, more specialized study.

Where do music majors live?
Chadbourne Residential College, across the street from the School of Music, is a favorite residence hall for music majors. Many say they like the comfort and convenience of being so close to practice rooms and classrooms. However, music students can apply to live in many other residence halls as well. No student is required to live in the University residence halls, but many freshmen choose to do so.
